Session explores the evolution of Distributed Antenna Systems including neutral-host platforms, support of public-safety communications, the emergence of small cells, mobile backhaul and WiFi offload, and future DAS architectures
September 11, 2012, Roseburg, OR - Seth Buechley, President at SOLiD, is leading the “What You Need to Know About DAS Right Now” session on Thursday, September 13 from 2:15 to 3:15 during the Canadian Wireless Trade Show in Toronto. The presentation will examine the evolution of Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) including current and near-term wireless industry trends such as convergence, small cells and backhaul. Drawing from case study examples, the session will also explore emerging considerations such as support for public-safety services and offer deployment best-practice tips. Lastly, the seminar will share a vision of what future DAS networks will look like.
DAS has traditionally been used to solve the problem of voice coverage inside large buildings. However, the emergence of smartphones has ushered in a tsunami of data usage which has significantly changed the DAS market. As a result, DAS networks are being deployed to augment mobile carrier networks by enabling data capacity at outdoor spaces such as stadiums, campuses and train stations where bandwidth requirements tend to be high.
“Three key trends are driving the evolution of the DAS industry,” said Seth Buechley, President of SOLiD. “First, the 'cell' is becoming smaller and closer to where wireless users are to wireless provide coverage and capacity. Second, for pragmatic purposes including cost and network management, it has become a ‘plugged-in world’ where a single, neutral-host DAS is deployed to support multiple mobile carriers as well as other wireless services. And, lastly, localities are increasingly mandating public-safety coverage inside buildings and DAS is the logical platform to support this requirement.”
The Canadian Wireless Trade Show is Canada’s biggest technology, telecom, and wireless event drawing thousands of industry attendees to hear about the latest wireless industry trends as well as more than 200 companies exhibiting innovative wireless technologies and products.
“We look forward to sharing insights to the rapidly-expanding DAS marketplace and supporting our partner, Alliance Corporation
