SOLiD Launches RocketWAVE Technology Platform to Fulfill Promise of mmWave 5G

New in-building solution ensures quality of experience where mobile subscribers typically spend much of their time

 

PLANO, Texas — October 23, 2019—SOLiD, the leader in cellular in-building and public safety infrastructure, today launched the SOLiD RocketWAVETM5G off-air repeater platform. The RocketWAVE solution will provide millimeter wave (mmWave) signal distribution, 5G performance, speed and capacityindoors. New RocketWAVE mmWAVE products offer a simple, economical solution to assure seamless in-building service for mobile operators wishing to extend their mmWave networks indoors in the United States. RocketWAVE mmWave products will support 24GHz, 28Ghz, and 39GHz individually.

Without reliable in-building solutions, 5G subscribers will experience a drastic drop in performance every time they walk indoors, resulting in poor customer experience often leading to high churn rates. This issue is particularly problematic with new mmWave frequencies, given their higher attenuation and short propagation nature. Moreover, the challenge of extending 5G coverage indoors is further complicated by the increasing use of energy-efficient building materials, which can block or weaken many RF signals.

"The reliance on an outdoor-to-indoor strategy for 5G mmWave coverage depends on the assumption that small cell sites on lower height poles and structures are readily available. EJL Wireless Research has proven this strategy to be flawed, given the state of 5G mmWave networks across the U.S. currently,” said Earl J. SOLiD Reveals SURF™ Platform for O-RAN Compliant RAN Solutions

New class of open radio solutions enables greater cost-efficiency and flexibility to deliver high-performance 5G services sooner

This innovative family of open architecture solutions allows operators worldwide to diversify their ecosystem and speed the delivery of commercial 5G services. The SOLiD SURF platform is currently being tested in the United States, Japan and South Korea.

Based on the O-RAN Alliance radio access network (RAN) reference architecture, SOLiD SURF solutions provideRAN solutionsin an all-in-one configuration compliant with open, multi-vendor specifications. Offering a smaller footprint, lower power consumption and greater flexibility, O-RAN compliant SURF radio solutions enable simplified network architectures that can be operated and scaled more efficiently. SOLiD Enhances Deployment Flexibility Across All Bands with New ALLIANCE 2W Remote Unit

New SOLiD ALLIANCE 2W Remote Unit simplifies installation, commissioning and management
September 12, Plano, Texas – SOLiD, the leader in cellular in-building and public safety infrastructure, today announced the new and improved 2W Remote Optic Unit (N2ROU) as an addition to SOLiD’s ALLIANCE portfolio. The ALLIANCE 2W Remote Unit (N2ROU) helps operators simplify installation, commissioning and management with a new durable design.
The new SOLiD ALLIANCE 2W remote unit can be mixed with other ALLIANCE remote units (5W, 20W and 40W) in a single system all driven by a common head end,allowing for simple firmware upgrades, cost efficiency and flexibility.
The new ALLIANCE 2W remote unit delivers +33 dBm output power per band, except 2.5TTD at +32 dBm, at the antenna port for the 600, 700LTE, 700 FirstNet, 800 (Sprint)/850C, 1900P, 2100AWS, 2300WCS bands, and 2.5TDD.  This highly efficient, but small footprint unit can also support all commercial bands simultaneously. An optional Add-on Remote unit (AOR) can also be connected to the N2ROU to offer additional RF services.
With a rugged, yet compact NEMA 4 design, the new ALLIANCE 2W unit is designed for wall mounting, indoors or outdoors, but can also be rack mounted. A dry contact relay can be used for input alarms from external units, like battery backup systems. This compact design allows for maximum flexibility for future expansion.
